Piedmont Access to Health Services
Location: Chatham, VA
Project Type: Renovation, Adaptive Reuse
Size: 19,000 sq. ft.
IDG converted a historic 2-story, circa 1895 warehouse into clinical space for Piedmont Access To Health Services (PATHS). PATHS provides low-cost health care services to residents and was in need of new medical, dental, and pharmacy facilities.
The exterior of the heavy timber frame and brick building is treated with a more modern color palette and new windows to fill the spaces with daylight. The interior is reconfigured to provide separate areas for medical care for adults, pediatrics, and OB/GYN patients. The dental clinic is co-located in the building and has its own entrance as does the pharmacy. Security is maintained so that all three practices can share space while providing separate access points.
The project is designed to comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for renovating historic buildings and qualified for approximately $800,000 in Virginia Historic Tax credits.
