Freedom First Credit Union - Campbell Avenue Branch
Location: Roanoke, VA
Project Type: Interior Renovation
Project Size: 3,760 sq. ft.
With much of the 110 year-old State & City Building having been renovated into condominiums, Freedom First seized the opportunity to modernize the ground floor for their flagship Downtown Roanoke branch. IDG was challenged to create an open loft-like aesthetic to give the space a modern edge while paying homage to Roanoke's industrial past. To accomplish this, many of the original building elements were retained, including the extremely tall windows, stately concrete columns, and exposed beams.
The design team took advantage of the fifteen-foot tall ceilings by arranging offices in a pod configuration with capped ceilings and adding an exposed steel mezzanine to house a conference room. Finishes, fixtures, and accents enhance the industrial design aesthetic and include local reclaimed barn wood wall planks, lighting fixtures, a perforated corrugated metal panel ceiling, and decorative accents fabricated by local artisans.
