Berglund Center - Bella Vista Room
Location: Roanoke, VA
Project Type: Renovation
Project Size: 6,283 sq. ft.
Since its construction in the early 2000s, the top level of the Berglund Center’s Annex Building sat vacant and was mostly used for storage. The building, which houses the center’s administrative offices, is highly visible locally and from the adjacent heavily traveled I-581 (from which you can see its distinct angled glass wall). Although very prominent from the exterior, the real treasure was hidden on the top level of the building: the spectacular view of downtown Roanoke and surrounding mountains. The Berglund Center reached out to Interactive Design Group (IDG) to assist them in turning the former storage room with a view, to an upscale banquet hall with a view!
Renovation consisted of refinishing the interior and adding amenities to serve its guest and food/drink vendors. All interior finishes were upgraded including new paint, flooring, and an intricately designed ceiling to break up the large space, provide acoustic properties, and maintain access to the utilities above. New restrooms were added as well as a warming kitchen to support the food service staff. Highlighted in the space are two new pieces of casework: one serves as the greeter/host station and the other provides a beverage center and gathering space. A new rooftop HVAC unit and zoned air distribution was installed to provide year-round comfort.
