If you could meet a historical figure of any era, who would it be?

"Thomas Edison – He was always in the mindset to “make things better” and his philosophy was never fail – just find many ways how NOT to do something. I have always found his methods to be a great way to tackle all aspects of life."

Darcy McGrath, AIA

Project Architect

WORK
Darcy finds that one of the greatest aspects of being an architect is the ability to understand, investigate, and translate every client's specific needs into three-dimensional designs. Her commitment to teamwork promotes a collaborative environment and is the key to taking a project from concept design through construction, resulting in a building that exceeds everyone's expectations. Her diverse portfolio includes high-end office environments, technologically advanced manufacturing plants, higher education, government, healthcare facilities, and residential design.

PLAY
A former track and cross country athlete, Darcy still enjoys running, but now it's just for fun and she definitely avoids the hurdles! Biking, hiking, skiing, and especially body surfing (you can take the girl out of California, but you can't take the California out of the girl) are some of her favorite outdoor activities. She enjoys remodeling projects on her home and has the scars to prove it. Her favorite activity is taking long hikes with her husband and children through the beautiful woods of Southwest Virginia — Sunday afternoons don't get much better than that.

GROW
Darcy is from a large Navy family and lived in several places around the country before settling in southern California where she divided her time between hitting the waves and running on the Corona del Mar High School track and cross country teams. She received an athletic scholarship to attend California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. Juggling architecture school while training and competing in college athletics helped Darcy develop an early appreciation for time management. She learned how to prioritize tasks and to never underestimate what can be accomplished with good planning. After college, Darcy moved to Roanoke, Virginia, to begin her architecture career.
